Citrus Megarachne, 2025
Found objects (vintage camera, watch and electro-mechanical parts), blackened steel, brass, hardware, glass dome with base, felt, paint, Apoxie Sculpt, adhesives, wire
Dome: 9.75 x 6.8 (24.77 x 17.27 cm)
HWD: 5.5 x 4 x 4.25 (13.97 x 10.16 x 10.8 cm)
All of the spider assemblages I created this year are directly influenced by the massive amount of Joro Spiders here in Northern Georgia. I have a minor case (if that exists) of arachnophobia, enough that this provided a chill a few times while building.
These non-cast specimens under the domes are a new direction for the Mech-Fossil series. These take considerably more time assembling than the cast work in order to ensure they're not overly fragile. I use various adhesives, wires, epoxies and apoxie sculpt in an attempt to adhere most combined parts with both a physical and chemical adhesion of some type.
- BE CAREFUL!! When attaching the creature to the magnets in the base — resist the magnets from snapping the creature too hard to the base! There are magnets in the white base of the dome. These are very strong and hold the creature's metal base in place. When attaching the metal base of this creature to the magnets, it may yank the creature out of your hands and stick to the magnets. This force could damage the specimen.
