This piece requires four AA batteries. 

The cathedral is assembled from camera, electronic, and vintage machine parts. There are a number of LEDs backlighting the facade which floats approximately 3/8" away from the background. In low light it resembles light streaming through stained glass — or the outside of a multistory rave. The cathedral is surrounded by a deep, pine, frame with a thin 'halo' of gold leaf applied around the sides with a recessed acrylic front. 

This may ship with supports directly on the cathedral assemblage. It would require removing two screws to take the top of the wooden frame off. The acrylic would slide out and the supports could be removed. 

Statement

Conviction is a back-lit, assemblage sculpture that invites viewers into an exploration of beauty, craftsmanship, and the complex duality of faith. 

Crafted from an assortment of found objects, meticulously arranged and pieced together, the cathedral stands as a symbol of the remarkable creations that have emerged from the conviction and dedication inspired by religion and the Church. Through the transformation of mundane objects, I sought to convey the power of human aspiration and our ability to create something extraordinary from the ordinary. On one hand, it encapsulates the profound motivation that has driven individuals throughout history to undertake the monumental task of construction, serving as a testament to their faith and dedication. However, beneath the surface, Conviction reveals a contemplation of the complex relationship between the church, religion, and society. 

The deep wooden frame, crafted from pine, offers a sense of finality and eternal rest — an invitation to reflect upon the aspects of the church and religion that might require introspection and transformation. The delicate stripe of gold leaf adorning the frame's outer edge serves as a visual reminder of the seductive allure that can sometimes surround matters of faith and its potential for manipulation.
